For the uninitiated, Open Source Software is software that is developed for the people, by the people. Not to be confused with freeware or adware, most is developed under the GNU General Public license that keeps it free (as in freedom) to download.
Saul Rosenberg PMP created this group on AITP Washington DC Membership Networking Portal.
Though there are some differences between Richard Stallman's original view of Free Software and the Open Source Software Initiative, Open Source is offered as Free Software that is typically protected by the GNU General Public License, a similar public license or derivative license. Similar to Free Software, Open Source is a form of free software that grants a user the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software in addition to specific additional rules (detailed by the Open Source Initiative link below).
Though the differences of view points are mostly philosophic (but no less important) between these two camps, they are unified by the goal of providing an alternative to propriatary software. Within this group, we will discuss and recommend downloadable Open Source Windows based software that AITP members can download that will save money, support the Open Source initiative (through use), and make our members more productive.
