Meeting with Montgomery College

Jack Roof, Dick Davies and I went to the Germantown (MD) campus of Montgomery Community College April 30. We met with several professors there to discuss how we might develop a relationship with the College. We decided to start slow by getting the IT faculty on our mailing list. We also said their students are always welcome at our dinner meetings. We plan to make a greater effort for September as the spring semester is just about over.

Our main purpose is to help the professional growth of our members. A major goal is to help students as they learn and grow by providing resources to make their academic journey easier. We can create student chapters that students can join for networking, scholarship access, work programs and national competition with other AITP student chapters.

We just had a student from our Devry chapter speak at our monthly meeting on May 8. Bernard Igiri spoke on AJAX, a technology used to develop web applications. He is an new employee of General Dynamics and gave a very professional presentation. We hope to have other students speak to our group as part of their professional growth.

As Richard said we plan to work with Montgomery College in September to develop a relationship to help students. We are open to relationships with other schools in the DC area.
